Joan’s background is in education where she tried to interest young people in the mysteries of Maths and Science. Her passions are rooted in nature. She brings her skills, and interests in all things natural and their preservation, to the love of glass.
During her eight years as a part time student, working towards the degree in Architectural Glass, this interest in nature informed many of her designs. She used images of leaves, flowers, birds and butterflies. She is also been aware that she should take care of the environment in her practice by good workshop procedures and using recycled materials. Using these images and being aware of these constraints on her practice she constantly tries to create in glass something beautiful and meaningful.
